SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT

International Conference "NEAR-EARTH ASTRONOMY - 2003" Terskol, Russia, September 8-13, 2003


Dear colleagues!

We invite you to participate in the International Conference "Near-Earth Astronomy - 2003" in the settlement Terskol (the Elbrus region) on September 8-13 2003. The conference is dated for year of Russia in Ukraine, and 10th anniversary of establishing of International Association of Academies of Sciences. The conference is organized by the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INASAN) and by the International Centre for Astronomical, Medical and Ecological Research (ICAMER). The conference will promote the development of researches of near-Earth space, small bodies population of Solar system and objects of technogenic nature, conditions of their penetration in near-Earth space and migrations.

Scientific programme

  1. Near-Earth astronomy: progress, discoveries, problems. International cooperation.
  2. Classification of small bodies of the Solar system. Modeling of the near-Earth space population.
  3. The origin and migration of small bodies in the Solar system.
  4. Nearby passes and impacts of small bodies with the Earth and planets.
  5. Observations of geosynchronous satellites, space debris, modeling of explosions in GEO. The use of photometric, position and other information get from optical observational sites in the Data Processing Center.
  6. Numerical and experimental technique in near-Earth astronomy.
  7. Instruments and devices for observations in near-Earth astronomy.
  8. Earth atmosphere. Numerical and qualitative estimates.

During the conference will take place "round table" discussion of the problem "Man-Medium-Space".

Abstracts and reports

Invited reports - 40 minutes, oral reports - 15 minutes, poster reports - area 0.5-1 m2.
Abstract should be submitted in electronic form. Deadline - May 15 2003. However for successful planning of a conference we ask you of the forward ordering without the theses with the presumptive names of the report to send on electronic mail till 01.05.2003. In exclusive cases the texts in a printed kind or as a fax will be accepted. Abstract must be less then 200 words. Electronic text should be prepared in MS Word or ASCII without alignment, pictures and references.
Abstract and reports will be published. Reports will be refereed by scientific program committee of the conference. Instruction for preparation of reports for publication will appear in the Second announcement.
The languages of the conference are Russian and English.

Registration fee

Registration fee is 300 RUR. It should be paid cash during registration on the conference. Registration fee includes only expenses of conference (hall, paper, etc.). Registration fee does not include expenses on travel, accommodation and other expenses of a participant.

Demonstration devices

Accommodation

According to the acting applications the residing in boarding houses and sanatoriums will be planned. An estimated cost of residing with a full board 350 RUR. per day. The limited number of the participants have also been arranged for the living rooms in the ICAMER buildings located in the settlement Terskol (within 15 min walking distance of the hotels) and in the settlement Elbrus (within 20 min distance by car). In settlement Terskol there is also opportunity of residing in private (individual) sector.

Travelling

Per day previous to the beginning of a conference and per day of a beginning of a conference arriving will meet buses in Mineralnyye Vody. In this connection it is desirable to the participants of a conference to take the ticket up to Mineralnyye Vody. Estimated cost of travel by train from Moscow up to Mineralnyye Vody: a compartment - 1200-1300 RUR. Place card - 700-800 RUR.

The airport of Mineralnyye Vody is as well as internal and international (2500 RUR from Moscow). 

Cultural program.

Excursion to the astronomical observatory ICAMER at Terskol Peak, the Elbrus Medical and biological Station, points of interest of the Elbrus region are planned for the participants of the conference.

Financial Support.

In case of necessity financial support will be rendered to the invited lecturers. In other cases the partial financial support is possible, however, organizing committee directly before a conference will define its amount.
